May was my aunt and I loved her with all my heart. Whenever I was lost or confused, I knew I could always pick up the phone, call her and ask for advice. Even though she was 6,000 miles away! And the words of wisdom she gave me from that sage, practical mind of hers helped me greatly, time after time. Some evenings I miss her so much, when I am about to lift the phone and call her, then I realise she's not here any more, she's in heaven with my Mum (also called Mary) and all the other angels up there, looking down on us and smiling. I bet aunt May is making them all smile, singing songs in that beautiful voice of hers, lifting their spirits and making them happy like she did with us down here on earth. I love you aunt May, and I always will. We will always remember you. xxx

Every time I pass the site of the Glen Cinema in Paisley, which is now a large department store, I think of my dear Aunt May who, as an 8 year old child, survived the tragic 'Glen Cinema Disaster' where 69 little children lost their lives in that building when the celluloid film caught fire in the movie projection room and the cinema was filled with acrid, blinding black smoke. Many people have told me how May took a little 4 year old girl by the hand and safely led her home to Springbank Road in Paisley and the waiting, anxious arms of her mother. The little girl's older sister had been trampled to death in the stampede to escape. This sums up my wonderful Aunt May. Always thinking of others and having no thought for her own safety before that of her fellow human beings. She led that little, lost child home before she went back to her own home and for that simple act of kindness, we will never forget her.

My Aunt May loved to sing. She had such a pleasant voice and could sing for hours. She was the life and soul of the party and had such a 'Joie de vivre' and she lived life to the full, but she loved her family above all other things. We all loved her so much when she came back to Scotland on holiday and she would entertain us singing old traditional Scottish folk songs by Sir Harry Lauder. One of his songs called 'Keep Right On 'Til The End Of The Road' was a favourite of hers and it always made us smile when she sang that old song. She may be gone, but she will never, ever be forgotten.

To my wonderful cousins Hedy, Gordon and Andrew, Hedy's amazing husband Jim, May's beautiful grand-daughter Christina, Gordon's fantastic partner Theresa and all whose lives were touched by my Aunt May, please know that I am thinking of you all today on this most memorable day of all, the day when our fabulous May Pidhany came into this world. I am thinking warm thoughts of love and feel blessed to have had Aunt May in my life. I miss calling her on Sunday evenings from her home town of Paisley and hearing her unforgettable stories of her rich experiences and the astounding things she did in her long life. She told me so many times how proud she was of you all, and the gratitude she felt for all the care and love you all lavished upon her. The greatest gift of all is family. And I am eternally grateful to have a family like you guys. I love you all for the way you looked after Aunt May. She knew she was loved. And that made her so very happy.

This was my dear, beloved Aunt May who we all loved and cherished. Even though we lived 6,000 miles apart, I loved calling her of an evening and sharing reminiscences with her. She was a strong woman who worked hard, lived for her family and never let us down in any way. I feel truly blessed by God to have known her. She was always on the other end of the phone to listen to our problems and always gave us sound advice. Rest in peace up in heaven, Aunt May. We will love you forever and will never forget you. xxx

My cousin Thomas sent me this note and remembrance of May's character.  She was in the theatre when it caught fire.

Thomas writes:

....To think that your Mom survived that horrific event, and even took a 4 year old girl by the hand afterward, and led her home as her older sister had been killed, fills me with admiration. Your Mom must have been only about 7 or 8 years old herself at the time. What a legend she was. She deserved every second of those 103 years of life God gave her. I still love her so much and will never forget all her kindness to me and my brother Jim. You, Gordon and Andrew must be so proud of her.

The care hone sent us a beautiful card. Everyone in her unit took the time to sign it and write a personal message.  We are so very touched ❤️
