Maxine's obituary
Maxine Nicole Ganous Heyer, 75, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, March 18, 2022. After a month’s hospitalization in Alexandria INOVA’s ICU, Maxine died in the Capital Caring Health hospice unit at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. Born on September 16, 1946, in Enterprise, Alabama, Maxine was the only child of the late Edward and Dorothy Simmons Ganous.
Maxine was predeceased by her husband, Fredy H. K. Heyer (2008), retired Army. They made their home in Alexandria, VA, along with a total of 5 German shepherd dogs through the course of their 20-year marriage. During this time, Maxine was a civil servant at Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital, retiring in 2012 as a medical support assistant.
Maxine is survived by her stepmother Mary Ganous Pierce of Geneva, Alabama, and many cousins.
Maxine enjoyed eating with friends at a good restaurant, swapping recipes, shopping for beautiful fabrics and high heel shoes, spoiling her German shepherds, and doting over little babies. In fact, this particular love compelled Maxine during her retirement to provide part-time home healthcare for children and to serve in her church’s nursery ministry for many years. Maxine was a member of Franconia Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA. Maxine had a practice of sharing with neighbors, friends, and even strangers about her trust in Jesus and His faithful love for her, often ending a conversation with “I love you in Jesus.”
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Franconia Baptist Church, 5912 Franconia Rd., Alexandria, VA, at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022. A private interment will follow at a later date.
Friends and family would like to express our deepest appreciation to Pastor Nick Roark for officiating, to Franconia Baptist Church for their gracious hospitality, and to Pastor Philip Bishop of Lighthouse Baptist Church for his friendship and support of Maxine over the years.
