Skiing! He taught me how and even when I was terrified, he was so patient and kind. Once I “got it” we had so much fun skiing together. Also riding his motorcycle around Iowa City! Was never afraid with him driving that bike.
In response to "What was the most fun you ever had with Max?"
Your dad and I were always so proud of you, Kari and John. He loved you both so very much and I see so much of him in both of you. I wish you could have known him as I knew him before his illness took over but one day you will know your dad as I remember him from those days. Even though we parted ways, I still loved him. He was a very kind-hearted man who I knew always loved me too. May he Rest In Peace in Jesus’ loving arms and may you both feel how much you are loved by your dad and mom!
We became life long friends the summer of 67. Max was a goal setter and achiever. While not always successful he kept pressing forward. He was very generous to me and once "gave me the shirt off of his back"!
Through the years there were some blank spots but we could always pick up where we left off.
He cherished Strawberry Point, his classmates of 1969 and had a strong faith. In the end Max achieved his final goal.

Max was my classmate and my neighbor. I remember as kids playing 500 (a baseball game), Halloween parties, walking to school together, and his pole vaulting pit in the backyard.

I was a young swimmer that Max guarded. And what a force he was at the Strawberry Point Pool. He would stand in his chair and stop everything to air guitar when his favorite songs came on. I smiled so big when I read “Speedo.” God speed, Max.
