Max's obituary
Max Wayne Benoit, 81, passed away on December 27, 2022. He was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana and was currently living in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. He spent much of his adult life living in Texas, which he called home.
Max spent the last years of his life with his wife of nearly 40 years, Martha, who passed away in 2018, his daughter Pam, and son-in-law Mark, surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved Chevy Trucks and had a series of Chevrolet vehicles throughout his life. Five months before he passed, he purchased a new, bright blue, Chevrolet Camaro. While his family couldn’t understand the purchase at the time, they realize now that it was his way to spend his final days in style. He had a mind of his own and was not afraid to let those around him know what he was thinking. Leaving behind very little debt, maintaining excellent credit because “you always pay your bills on time”, and keeping his name in good financial standing was extremely important to him. For those who knew Max, they will miss his spunky attitude knowing underneath that tough exterior was a man who cared deeply for his family.
Growing up in Louisiana, Max was fond of Cajun food, especially gumbo and boudin. However, with his love for Texas, his favorite foods included Tex-Mex and barbecue, but one of his favorite meals was his wife, Martha’s, fried shrimp. He also loved sweets, especially cookies – oatmeal cookies were his favorite and of course, his wife’s Alabama Cream Cheesecake was often served during special occasions. At 81, he discovered his love for Fruity Pebbles cereal, and shared this love with his great-grandchildren. He was a simple man but lived a full and unique life.
Max retired from a 30+ year career in the music industry. As a bus driver and “rag man”, Max worked for some of Country music’s top artists, including a 28-year career as George Strait’s Merchandise Manager. His “music family” was extremely important to him. Upon his death, he left behind many friends that loved him and thought of him as family. He will be missed by many in the industry.
Max is preceded in death by his wife, Martha, his parents, Ruby and Wilson Joseph, and his sister Carolyn. He is survived by his daughter Pam (Mark) Ford, son Jody (Rhonda) Benoit, granddaughters Sandie (Ryan) Beauchamp, Melissa (John) Prendergast, and grandsons Dustin Benoit and Blake (Josie) Benoit, and 10 great-grandchildren.
