Mavis's obituary

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend Mavis Anne James on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the age of 68. Mavis was born to Cecil Edgar James and  Laverna Hazel  Kathleen Kinkade in Ottawa July 9, 1954 and is predeceased by siblings Douglas Norman James, Bruce John James, Shirley Irene James and Elizabeth Jean (James) Lacelles. She is survived by her sister Nancy (James) Usher and brother, Richard James. After graduating high school she worked as a cook for various establishments.

She married Alexander Walker Makarevicius July 28, 1973, who has predeceased her. They had 2 daughters, Judi and Patricia.

Mavis showed us that life’s journey although filled with challenges and hardships during some seasons, can lead to spiritual growth, learning and victories. She was respected, trusted and loved by AA members for over 40 years.

She was a loyal friend, with a keen sense of sarcastic humor. She was an avid crafter. Much joy was found in service to others and family was important to her. When she became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her unwavering faith in God became the new foundation upon which she built this season of her life. She was deeply sentimental with an energetic spirit and will be remembered as a friend who embodied courage.

Please join Mavis’ family in celebrating her life at a graveside service held at Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery on Friday March 25, 2022, at 3:00pm. A live stream will be made available at the following link: https://foveo.stream/memorial…. We would invite all friends and family to please register online. Thank you.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made instead to the Ottawa Area Intergroup of Alcoholics Anonymous https://ottawaaa.org/digital-… Please reference in memory of Mavis James.
