Maurita's obituary

It is with tender sadness and profound respect that we mark the passing of Maurita "GrammaRita" Lavy, who left us on October 23, 2025. Born in 1933, Maurita lived a life full of love, laughter, and learning, leaving her unique imprint on all she met.

Maurita is survived by her four daughters and 2 sons, Diana Harmon, Leslie Gutierrez, Debbie Blue, Danny and David Lavy and Deanie Roum, and her granddaughters Jamie Roberts, Jaynie Steverson, and grandsons Matt and Anthony Gutierrez, and Roddy and Roque Harmon, plus innumerable great-grandchildren. Each of them will carry forward the spirit of their beloved matriarch, cherishing her memory, and embodying the extraordinary values she nurtured in them.

An avid consumer of delectable delights, Maurita found joy in simple pleasures, such as the tantalizing Veggie Straws and Chipotle Honey Chicken Bowl. She would often enjoy these treats while cheering for her favorite sports team, The Eagles, or losing herself in the twists and turns of her favorite TV show, Law & Order SVU.

Known for her love for games, Maurita would often be found engrossed in Scrabble, Online Solitaire and Balloon Popit. Her zest for life extended to her way of staying fit. Dancing was her exercise of choice, a testament to her vivacity and joyous spirit.

Maurita held a deep commitment to the cause of scientific advancement. Her compassionate and caring nature will continue to inspire those who knew her and benefitted from her generosity. In lieu of flowers, donations are being collected for the American Heart Association in her memory at https://everloved.com/life-of….

A woman of utmost politeness, courtesy, and possessing a great sense of humor, Maurita’s advice to all was a simple, 'Don't rock the boat.' She was proud of her achievement of raising six children to adulthood, a testament to her devotion and unending love.

As Maurita's life drew to a close, her primary concern was for the well-being of her roommate of 30 years. This enduring act of compassion reflects the essence of Maurita's character.

Maurita's life was indeed a tapestry of grace, resilience, and loving kindness, and she leaves behind a legacy of a life well-lived. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
