Maurine's obituary
Maurine “Jo” Birdsong
June 19, 1940 – June 30, 2025
Maurine “Jo” Birdsong, a devoted wife, loving mother, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She was a woman of deep compassion, unwavering strength, and quiet selflessness, who spent her life placing the needs of others before her own.
Jo was married to the love of her life, Kenneth Birdsong, for 53 years until his passing in September of 2011. Together, they built a beautiful life and family, moving across the country during Ken’s distinguished service in the United States Air Force. After his retirement, they returned to their roots in East Texas, where they enjoyed the peace of home and the blessings of family. Following Ken’s passing, Jo relocated to Rowlett, Texas, to be closer to her children and grandchildren—whom she cherished more than anything.
Throughout her life, Jo worked in medical administration at various hospitals and clinics across Texas. She brought warmth, professionalism, and care to every place she served. Her genuine kindness, patience, and giving spirit touched the lives of so many.
Jo’s love for her family was boundless. She was a source of steady encouragement, unconditional support, and heartfelt prayers. She loved deeply and gave generously—to her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchild, her extended family, and her Lord.
Jo is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Jay Coyle of Plano; her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Brooke Birdsong of Rockwall; her beloved grandchildren, Erin Petersen, Jacob Kruger, Jackson Birdsong, and Stella Birdsong; great-granddaughter, Riot Petersen; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Due of Lubbock; and many nieces, nephews, and relatives who will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Birdsong; her parents, Merron “Good’ern” and Stella Due; her twin brother, Merron Jr.; brothers, Charles, and Elbert Due; and her sisters, Shirley Smith-Hambrick, Linda Sheridan, and Sue White-Stringer.
Jo’s legacy is one of love, grace, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who knew her.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
