Maurice's obituary
Maurice Dale Adams (aka Mike - who knew?) died at home in Haddam, CT, on April 27th, 2022; and with his death, we have lost the best Christmas Letter in the history of modern culture. With a void in our literary reporting, who will attempt to continue this tradition? Will it be his just-as-vibrant wife Elizabeth, his junior brothers Doug and Donald (aka Jim), or one (or all?) of his three devoted and dashing kids, in seniority order: Moe (not to diminish the full name Maurice, it’s just what he goes by), Alex (again, short for Alexander), or Emily?
With the Christmas Letter goes the annual wine recommendation, so one will be provided here. Over the past month, his family raided his cellar in search for the best. On April 28th, in celebration of Maurice, we poured ourselves a 2018 French Bordeaux: a Pape Clement from the Pessac-Leognan region, and fully endorse this as his annual pick. It’s pricey, but hey, life is too short to drink bad wine!
Maurice’s parents would be PROUD. Born in San Francisco to Mary and Maurice Adams on June 3, 1945, raised in Idaho (he has a hat that completes the look), trained by the Army at West Point (class of 1968), married his north star Elizabeth, higher-educated by Stanford Graduate School of Business, President of Gardner’s Markets in Miami alongside Elizabeth, PROUD father of three and grandfather of seven, climate change advocate, and general tinkerer of all things homestead, it’s now our turn to be PROUD of this handsome, kind, grinning, passionate, smart man.
It’s okay to get teary-eyed at this point. He would.
We will host a celebration of life in Maurice’s honor, date to be determined. Please https://everloved.com/life-of… for details, to leave a tribute, and to make a donation to the Climate Reality Project.
