Lady Mau's obituary
She started her schooling at Lady Lark Nursery school, Lagos and moved to Zik Avenue primary school in Enugu (formerly known as Santa Maria primary school) where she was until the civil war in started 1966, during which it was difficult to receive any formal education. After the war, she completed her primary school education at Zik Avenue after which she gained a place at Queens School, Enugu. She attended Federal Government College, Benin for her A level and finally, University of Nigeria Nsukka where she received a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) in 1985. She attended the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986.
She served in Federal Housing Authority, Festac during the NYSC year, worked briefly in S. N. C. Wachukwu & Co. law firm and Century Merchant bank before venturing into private legal practice.
She started her own law firm called Maureen Oddie-Okeke and Associates in 1996 where she specialized in Real Estate transactions and Corporate Compliance services, leveraging on her wide network of friends over the years.
She married her husband Mr George Oddie-Okeke on 18th January 1991 and the union is blessed with 4 children; Uzo, Chiemelie, Kamsi and Dumeje. She lived with her family in Lagos moving from Okota to Festac and then Surulere where her family home is located. In 2018, she moved to the United Kingdom for medical treatment where she eventually succumbed to her illness.
Maureen was very dedicated to her family life and took her role as a mother very seriously. She enjoyed cooking and was great at it. She was a humorous woman who loved to sit and talk with people. She had a good eye for fashion and loved to attend weddings and parties with her close friends where they would look elegant and glamorous. She was from a tight knit family and was very fond of her brothers and many cousins who equally doted on her.
As a Christian, Maureen was devoted to prayer and fellowship with her Christian community. She tried to bring others closer to God in many ways including teaching, preaching and being a good example. Ever the good natured and generous woman, she loved to give to people around her and to those in need and opened the doors of her home to many people.
MauMau, Olimpipi, Olocomotion, Maukomau was a great mother, sister, friend and aunty who will always be remembered for all the good things she was to many people.
She is survived by her husband, children, brothers, brothers and sisters-in- law, nieces and nephews, and cousins.
