Matthew (Matt, Johnny) John Zamora, 67, died peacefully at home after a long fought battle with cancer. Born in Albuquerque to parents Nora Taylor and Jacob Zamora and subsequently raised by his step dad Dominick Mirigliano. He spent his childhood in Staten Island before returning to Arizona in 1974. He lived in Mesa and Rio Rancho before moving to Tucson in 2008. Matt served in the Air Force before his career in the semiconductor industry working for such companies as Motorola, OnSemiconductors, Intel and Texas Instruments. Never happier than when he was in the woods hiking or camping his other interests included roasting his own coffee, perfecting any recipe he could try, grilling, chess, HAM radios, photography, and bicycles. He liked to be firmly in the present experiencing the now rather than dwelling in the past or worrying about the future, his common mantra was “just be”.

He is survived by his partner of 13 years, Susan Kentosh, as well as many family members he loved, daughter Dana (Charles) Cahoon, son Zachary (Jessica) Zamora, step daughter Brandi (Tony) Goodman and 11 grandchildren, as well as sisters Eva, Sarah, Annmarie and brothers Dominick and Anthony.

Matt was preceded in death by his mother Nora, stepfather Dominick, and brother Phillip.

A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

While not a gardener, Matt discovered he was a child at heart and loved playing in the dirt at the Tucson Village Farm. Any memorial donations may be sent to that organization.
