I sadly found out about Gabe's passing only last year. I dated Gabe while we attended Flagler College together and he shaped a lot of my college experience. He constantly made me laugh. We met during an international culture class and I was always impressed by his intellect. Though I left st Augustine in 2012 after I graduated, we stayed in touch over the years. I was also able to visit him during a road trip in the spring of 2021. I think of him and remember him not by his addictions but by his smile, sense of humor, and intelligence. Another photo I’ll add is a review he left me in 2017 when I was trying to build my petsitting profile. It always makes me smile.

This news is heartbreaking. Gabe was literally the first person I met in college, he was my dorm roommate. Gabe, two other guys (Chip and Chase) and myself used to hang at the beach at this makeshift tiki almost nightly during freshman year. It was our dorm room escape. Those tiki hangs were filled with heated philosophical debates, and Gabe verbally jousted with this unbreakable determination (stubbornness) that was somehow always likeable. Gabe would intellectually battle anyone, over anything, anytime. Many of those battles would turn to sand wrestling matches, two guys laughing hilariously as the other two wrestle til they can’t breathe, over nothing and everything at once. Gabe, being the smallest of the 4 of us, would never back down, and usually, quite the opposite, he instigated. There were way more wrestling matches with Gabe in them than out. There were never hard feelings after though, no matter how serious it felt, it was just 4 fellas sorting their way through young adulthood. I’ve reminisced on those tiki days so many times with the other two guys but lost touch with Gabe over the years. I love ya Gabe, and I hope to encounter your mischievous intellect some other time in some other place.
