I remember playing with matches, making ninja weapons, and Nintendo.  It was awesome.  I regret missing the chance to reconnect once we were no longer just dumb kids.

Matty introduced me to boating  – this was a particularly magical trip down Westwater Canyon — with Matty and Julia
This is a tough one to write. Matty worked for Longacre Expeditions for a bunch of years, I assume all in the '90s, but I might be wrong about that. He started out leading trips for us in Pennsylvania. He had that great combination of hard and soft skills that made kids who had experienced a "Matty Miles Trip" want to come back, uncaring of where they went as long as Matty was their leader. I doubt that he would have agreed with me (because his heart was in the outdoors) but his "highest and best use" was as a course director. He was adept at inspiring trip leaders and assistants that were only a couple of years younger than he was. He could teach the hard skills and the feelings-level stuff. The kid looked up to him, and even when he was reading the riot act, he never lost his cool. Sadly for me personally, Matty lobbied hard to become a trip leader out West, which we agreed to. The bad news was I didn't get much time with him. The good news was we never worried about how his trip was going; it was a slam dunk every summer.  Matty, you gave me so much - friendship, loyalty, quality, honesty, and that big fat smile that lit up the room. I love you, man.
Matt helped me so much in my life. I first met Matt when I was 20 years old, struggling with OCD. Matt helped me understand my OCD and helped guide my journey in life throughout the next 8 years. He knew me so well and could relate to me well and I told him about almost everything regarding my life. He was not only someone that could help me with OCD but he could always relate to me and made me feel understood and cared for. He really did a good job at treating OCD and really understood what people went through with it. He was a great person who had a big heart and was really impactful in my life. He will be missed, but the positive impact he made on so many people’s lives will never be forgotten. Sending all my love and prayers to Matt and his family and anyone else affected by this news. Thank you, Matt, for everything. ❤️
I knew Matty professionally through an OCD consultation group in Denver. I’ve made referrals to him countless times. He also co-lead an OCD group that one of my patients attended so I was able to see firsthand how effective he was as a clinician. He will be sorely missed in the OCD community.

Matty was one of the warmest and kindest souls I’ve known. He loved to share his passion for everything outside with all people! He was a generous and sweet man who will be missed💕
I was fortunate enough to get to know Matty over the the last several years...from the first time I met him to the last time we climbed together he was just one of those people I could talk to for hours. Whether it was about rafting, old school climbing, or nothing at all he brought an heir of positivity and an interesting take on every subject, and I will dearly miss those times. Thank you Matty for everything you gave to our community and for being a friend. I will miss you.
So sorry to hear about this. I only met Matty a handful of times at the climbing gym but he definitely left an impression on me. He had this sorta goofy smile that was very warm and welcoming. Matty was always down to give a catch even if he had been at the gym for hours already and would always cheer you on as you worked the crux. He absolutely loved climbing and anything outdoors. Will miss seeing him around!
