Matthew (Matt) McDermott, 50, passed away on February 6, 2024 in Lake Station, Indiana surrounded by family. He was born on December 13, 1973 in Hobart, Indiana to Mickey and Gloria.

Matt is survived by his wife, Elaine McDermott, mother, Gloria Shukitis, grandmother, Hilda Getrich, sisters Jennifer (Matt) Sessoms and Tina (Alex) Powell, son Tristan Horn and daughter, Sarah Horn, grandchildren, Jaelyn and Keegan, nephews, Dylan, Carter and Parker, nieces, Lorelei and Paige, faithful dogs, Julie and Jerry. He is preceded in death by his father, Mickey McDermott, grandfather, Leonard Getrich, grandparents Bill and Phyllis McDermott.

Matt was a friend to everyone. He enjoyed camping, music, attending concerts, NASCAR, Chicago Cubs baseball, watching Buffalo Bills football and spending time with friends and family in his backyard oasis. He was an honest self-employed carpenter that completed his projects—homes and commercial sites with great attention to detail for many repeat customers.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 10 at 2p at the Fireside Room, 2709 Brandt Street, Portage, IN 46368.
