Matthew's obituary

Matthew David Hartle, of Tempe, AZ and formerly of Urbandale, IA passed away December 18, 2020, at the age of 52. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa on June 13, 1968, but spent his youth growing up in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1986. Matt attended Buena Vista University for a year before attending Iowa State University where he received his bachelor's degree in business in 1990, graduating with honors. Matt and Sherrlyn (Hoffman) were married on August 18, 1990, in Iowa Falls, IA. They lived in the Urbandale area where they raised their 3 children: Shannon, Megan, and Ethan. Matt earned his CPA and CIA certifications and was employed by several Des Moines area companies including State of Iowa Auditors, Travelers, AmerUs Group, De Lage Landon, EMC, American Equity, TransAmerica, and most recently Silicon Valley Bank in Tempe, AZ.

Matt was always the first person to make friends with a stranger and he had the loudest laugh in the room. He loved to fish, hike, play basketball and tennis, cheer on the Cyclones and enjoyed beating everyone in all games. He enjoyed telling stories to get a good laugh, he enjoyed movies, watching football and basketball, 80's music, and comedians, especially those that mocked certain political figures. Matt’s witty, fun-loving, and outgoing personality will be missed greatly.

He is survived by his wife Sherrlyn Hoffman Hartle of Grimes, IA; and three children, Shannon (Jon), Megan and Ethan Hartle; his parents, David and Barbara Hartle of Cedar Rapids, IA; brothers Steven (Ashley) Hartle and Nathan (Kristin) Hartle and sister Emily Johnson. He was preceded in death by his infant brother Jonathan Michael Hartle and his grandparents.

There will be no immediate service due to COVID-19; however, a private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Matt to any charity of your choice.
