Matthew's obituary

Matthew Gerard Cecil was born on September 20, 1983 and lost his brief fight with colon cancer on June 25, 2025. He is survived by his fiancée Allison Meyer, parents Stephen and Joanne Cecil, his sister Melissa (Keith) Southern, brother Mark (Rachel) Cecil, sister Angela (Scott) Jackson and multiple nieces and nephews. He finished his undergraduate and Master's Degree at East Carolina University. He recently worked as a Senior Transit Planner at GO Cary Transit after 18 years with Chapel Hill Transit. He and friend Pete Reneo owned Brooklyn Pizzeria in Fayetteville, NC. He and brother Mark also were involved in Big Slack Off Road which was an off shoot of their love of riding ATVs since childhood. He loved going to Cape Lookout National Seashore to surf fish with family and friends. Matthew loved being the fun uncle to all his nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be Monday July 7, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1603 Edgerton St, Goldsboro, NC 27530. Visitation will be at 10:30 AM EDT followed by mass at 11:30 AM EDT. There is no reception after the funeral mass.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to St Jude Children's Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children.
