Matthew Lyle Williamson (Matt), 53, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on March 21st after a two-year battle with cancer.

Matt was born on July 21st, 1968 in Morrison, Illinois to John Lyle and Sue Williamson, the fifth of seven children. From three months on, Matt was a lifelong resident of Sarasota, where he grew up, met and wed his wife, Pam, in a beachside wedding in August 1998, and raised their three children, Sophie, Sam, and Zeke.

Matt was an enthusiastic sports fan, and enjoyed watching all types of sports games. He was an especially dedicated supporter of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was thrilled to watch them win their second Super Bowl in 2021. Matt was an avid athlete and loved playing in all types of leagues, including basketball, racquetball, tennis, soccer, and bowling. He also enjoyed running with his wife and three kids, especially in the Sarasota family beach runs, where many would see Matt's tall frame standing out above the crowd. Matt ran in numerous marathons, including the Dublin, Disney, and inaugural Sarasota marathon.

In his free time, Matt loved coaching his children's soccer games, completing puzzles, and reading whatever James Patterson book he could get his hands on. He was a constant jokester- his offbeat, dry sense of humor would leave his friends and family bursting with laughter and shaking their heads with smile on their faces. Matt and Pam enjoyed gardening together, where Matt displayed a natural green thumb. Matt and Pam also shared a love of animals. Matt raised his parrot, Tiki, a macaw, from three days old, and he delighted in his fish tank of African Cichlids. They currently have two dogs, Lucy and Jax, four cats, and many chickens. During his career, Matt worked as a journeyman electrician- a topic he tried to explain to his children often, despite their lack of comprehension.

Matt was predeceased by his father, John Lyle Williamson; his paternal grandparents, Lyle and Nellie Williamson; and his maternal grandparents, Floyd and Virginia Johnson. He is survived by his mother, Sue Williamson; wife, Pamela English Williamson; three children, Sophia, Samuel, and Ezekiel Williamson; and his siblings, Mike, Mark, Marci, Marie, Melissa, and Martin (Larry). 

In lieu of flowers and in the spirit of celebrating Matt's love for his family, we are collecting donations for an education fund for his children. There will be a celebration of Matt's life on Saturday, April 2nd, 2022 from 2 - 5 PM at the family home.
