Mathew's obituary
Mathew Bentley Stout, AKA Big Mat,
AKA El Phantom Drummer, Age 52 of Wytheville, VA left this world on April 29,
2025 after a long battle with his health. His strength and perseverance was proven time and time
again as he fought so hard he often amazed the medical professionals that cared
for him, right until the end.
In lieu of a funeral service, the
family asks you to celebrate Mat by visiting the church he often spent time at,
a place that brought him peace and comfort. We hope that you find peace and connection
to his spirit there as well.

Mat was born in Hampton, VA to William
Stout and Catherine Lyons on April 10, 1973. He graduated from Fort Chiswell High
School in 1991 and joined the Army before spending several years at college. He
went on to become a physical therapist and
eventually a long-haul trucker. Mat loved music, especially live music, and
his favorite band was Cracker. It led him to an incredible family of friends in
that community that he was involved with throughout most of his life. He also enjoyed gardening, hiking, and outdoor activities. Most
recently he has been fascinated watching a livestream of eagles hatching.
Mat made an impact on every soul he
met. He was an inspiration. Some called him friend, many called him brother. He
could always make you laugh, and no matter what you were doing, if Mat was there, it was bound to be a good time. He was fun, loveable, and could light up a room.
He always put others first and his spirit touched many. He was a rare soul, one
of the greats.
Mat is survived by his sister Heather
of Colorado. He is preceded in death by his father William, mother Catherine, infant
twin brother Jeremy, and infant sister Susan.
