Co Mat made me feel truly loved. A favorite childhood memory is of her giving me Ruffles potato chips and RC Cola whenever we visited her in Monterey Park. She was one of a few people who gave me a birthday present when I was a kid. I was lucky to have her in my life.

Mát and I started our friendship since I entered my 10th grade (Đệ Tam B1) at Quốc Gia Nghĩa Tử High school in Saigon. We both came to the US for college under a scholarship offered by the Agency for International Development, the US States Department. Mát went to USC and I went to San Diego State University. Those days, on occasions, I joined other friends to visit Mát several times in the Los Angeles area. Once we drove to Lake Arrowhead in the Winter time, my car got stuck in the ice, Mát and other friends came out to push my car out of the trouble. A short time before I came back to Vietnam, Mát and I joined with a group of friends to camp in the Sequoia National Park. We had unforgettable time together there. I always remembered her singing voice to entertain the group. 

I had a plan to visit California on the first week of January with intention to visit Mát. However, my plan had to scrap due to other urgencies. 

Dear Mát, we have been good friends for over 60 years with several good memories. You will be missed!
