On the death of Masatsune Kainosho, Tokyo,

to his wife Mitsue Kainosho and his daughter Akiko, née Kainosho

fromRuediger LawaczeckBerlin, Germany.ruediger.lawaczeck@gmx.dexx49 30 436 2377

Dear Mitsue and Akiko,

my deepest sympathy goes first and foremost to both of you and your families on the death of Kai. You have lost a special man in the passing of your husband and father; I and Caltech Chan Family have lost a friend who left a great gap, even across continents and cultural differences. I hope he did not have to suffer. His scientific and academic achievements may be better appreciated by others; for me, he remains Kai, the curious one, who wanted to understand the world and whom I could ask about God and the world.

It’s sad, but despite all the grief, life goes on. He has been present for me for 50 years and will remain in my memory; his humor was infectious, and he also knew how to enjoy life, especially when it came to food. I say goodbye, Kai.

Love YoursRuediger/Roger.February 2026.

On behalf of the Taiwan Magnetic Resonance Society (TMRS), I would like to express our deepest condolences on the passing of Professor Masatsune Kainosho.

We were deeply saddened to learn of his sudden departure. Professor Kainosho was a highly respected leader in the global NMR community, and his scientific achievements and dedication have had a lasting impact across generations.

Although my personal interactions with Professor Kainosho were mainly through international meetings, I will always remember his warmth, openness, and genuine enthusiasm when engaging with colleagues. He was someone who naturally brought energy and kindness into every encounter—qualities that many in our community will remember fondly.

Professor Kainosho also maintained a long-standing and close connection with the NMR community in Taiwan through numerous visits and academic exchanges. Many Taiwanese researchers have been inspired by his work and benefited from his guidance and presence over the years.

Please convey our heartfelt condolences to Professor Kainosho’s family. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.

We sincerely appreciate you for creating and sharing the memorial website. We will circulate it within the Taiwanese NMR community and encourage our members to leave messages and memories, which we hope will bring comfort to his family.

Professor Kainosho will be greatly missed, but his legacy will continue to live on through the worldwide NMR community.

With deepest respect and sympathy,

Dennis Hwang
