Marylee's obituary
Marylee Garcia, a beloved wife, mother, grammy, and friend, passed away at home with the love of her life, John Garcia, by her side, on March 4th, 2025.
She was born on November 19, 1954, in McAlester, Oklahoma, the daughter of Leon Latour and Mary (Stevenson) LaTour. Marylee graduated from MacArthur High School in 1973, then went on to UT Arlington, earning a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. She then went on to earn her teaching certificate in 1997. John Garcia married Marylee on September 26, 1980 at Park Plymouth Methodist Church in Irving, Texas. They spent 43 amazing years together. Marylee and John went on to have 3 wonderful sons: Brent, her thinker, Shaun her doer, and Daniel her feeler. She always said she was never sad to not have any daughters because she knew when her sons married, she would get the daughters she always wanted.
Marylee was a storyteller at heart, a teacher by calling, and a woman whose warmth and kindness left an imprint on all who knew her. She was a teacher for over 19 years, inspiring countless students throughout her career. She had a gift for making learning come to life, weaving her signature stories into every lesson. But her storytelling wasn’t reserved just for the classroom, she could talk to anyone, turning strangers into friends with her endless charm and quick wit. Though our hearts ache in her absence, we take comfort in knowing that her stories will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Marylee was the heart of her family, known for her unwavering love, selflessness, and the warmth she brought to everyone she met. She dedicated her life to her loved ones, always putting family first and ensuring that those around her felt cherished. Whether through a home-cooked meal, a comforting word, or an open-door policy for anyone in need, she embodied kindness and strength in every aspect of her life.
Above all, Marylee was a devoted Grammy who delighted in spoiling her grandkids. Whether it was sneaking them extra treats, cheering them on in their endeavors, or simply wrapping them in the warmth of her love, she made every moment with them special.
Marylee was preceded in death by Leon LaTour, father, Mary (Stevenson) LaTour; mother, Skeeter LaTour, brother, Kathy LaTour, sister. She is survived by John Garcia; spouse, Brent Garcia, Shaun Garcia, Daniel Garcia; children, Ryan Garcia, Noah Garcia, Otto Garcia, Maren Garcia, Landon Garcia, Lincoln Garcia; grandchildren, Larry LaTour; brother, who will forever cherish the laughter, wisdom, and love she brought into their lives.
