MaryEllen's obituary

Mary Ellen (Hilliard) DuBois of Solebury Township, daughter of Johnston Hilliard and Ellen Hilliard (Tiernan), passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 26, 2025. She was 89.

Born and raised in New Hope, Mary Ellen was a proud member of the Hilliard/Tiernan family, whose roots in the New Hope Solebury area transcend five generations. She graduated in 1954 from New Hope Solebury High School and remained a lifelong resident of New Hope. After graduating, Mary Ellen worked for many years as a teller at Solebury National Bank. She took time off from work to devote herself fully to raising her beloved children, Mike and Mara, and found in those years of motherhood her greatest joy and fulfillment. Years later, she returned to work as a bookkeeper for the Borough of New Hope. Mary Ellen spent most of her life working as the manager of Pine Wreath and Candle in Peddlers Village. She also spent many years volunteering for the New Hope Solebury Little League and New Hope Soccer Club.

Mary Ellen was a loving grandmother whose greatest joy was time spent with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed reminiscing about the old days of New Hope, sharing stories, laughter, and memories that kept the past close to her heart. Just as meaningful to her were the everyday moments – catching up on daily life, conversations around the table, and simply being together. An avid reader, she found comfort and happiness in books, always eager to share a good story or recommendation. Her warmth, love, and joy for connection will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Mary Ellen is predeceased by her beloved husband Edward; her loving grandson Jack; and her parents Johnston and Ellen Hilliard. She is survived by her children Michael (Kristin) DuBois and Mara (Ann Major) DuBois; her grandchildren Brian, Kelly, and Kevin DuBois; brother Jay (Sandra) Hilliard, sister Karen (Paul) Beiger; her nephews Andy (Julie) Beiger, Todd (Lisa) Beiger, Adam (Maddie) Hilliard, and Erik Hilliard; her great-nieces Katie Beiger, Erin Beiger, and Lucy Hilliard; and her great-nephews Drew Beiger and Matthew Beiger.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Saturday, January 3rd at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 1 Riverstone Circle, New Hope, PA 18938 followed by a mass at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Carversville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Mary Ellen has requested memorial contributions be made in honor of her grandson Jack to the scholarship fund created in his memory: The Jack DuBois Live Like Jack Memorial Scholarship, Shore Regional High School, 132 Monmouth Park Highway, West Long Branch, NJ 07764.
