I remember MS Jackson when I was small. I going to miss you so much. She is the only one calls me Annie like the movie because I was in orphan and I had a hard life. She now how much I loved my dog Buddy and every day she will ask me how is my dog doing and I will tell her show pictures and videos of him. She push me to be the best and always be there for me. I would not be where I am if it was not for her. I know we did not see eye to eye on some things but we just got though it. I will come to work in pain and she will ask me to do things knowing that I was hurting so much but I still did it. I know she is going to miss shopping Black Friday and dollar store. She know I was proud to be here in USA and I will wear the flag all the time and sometimes if she see something I like she will get it for me. I am going to miss you so much and I know you will guide me through life. I love you so much xoxoxox

MaryAnn was a wonderful person, neighbor co-worker and friend. She always had something funny and encouraging to say, and always asked about my family. She cared about people, and loved working with children. She was an amazing supervisor, I learned a lot from her. Her genuine spirit will be missed. My heartfelt condolences to her husband, her daughters and entire family.

This one really hit home. I worked at a few other schools but Long Branch had by FAR the most people that came back to check in on Mrs.Jackson because she was that great of a person. She was such a great influence in so many peoples lives and no amount of words can express the impact she had on so many generations!

Ms. Jackson thank you for being such a wonderful, silly , beautiful caretaker. I always felt safe and happy going to extended day knowing you were going to have the best activities and snacks for us. Thank you for setting a wonderful example and always keeping it real. I remember everyone would sing 🎤 her “I’m sorry miss Jackson .. oooo I am forealllll never meant to make ya daughter cry” by OUTKAST and you just rolling your eyes at that. Lol. I love you thank you for keeping me safe my elementary school years.

We remember the afternoons at Extended Day with gratitude. Both our children enjoyed the activities provided during Extended Day for all six years at Long Branch. The kids were given the freedom to do a variety of physical and artistic games as long is no one was hurt. Then Ms. Jackson immediately stopped it; one verbal reprimand was enough. It was a lot of work by the entire staff to provide an enriching and engaging environment for those three hours every afternoon, culminating in the Extended Day talent show. Everyone was influenced by Ms. Jackson.

I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of MaryAnn. She was a strong and beautiful woman. She was a regular visitor to the art studio and lending library and I was always happy to see her! We would laugh about work and she would tell me about her preschoolers art projects and we would come up with ideas for more
She brought both of her girls through the studio often. I was so excited to hear that Kailyn would be attending an art college. She was proud of her kids!
Although I can’t make the candlelight vigil, I’ll be there in spirit and light a candle for her at home. I will miss her and feel fortunate to have gotten to know her in a small way and appreciative of getting to work with her!
In sympathy,
Sheri Bartholow

It is hard to put into words just how amazing Mrs. Jackson was. I attended Extended Day all six years that I was at Long Branch and she always made it so fun. Every day we had lots of choices for activities and she did such a great job getting us extra-special treats like tie-dye day or s'mores or splash day! Sometimes I would go back to visit when I was in high school and college and she would greet me with a big smile and a hug. Such a wonderful person - I was very sad to hear that she is no longer with us.

Maryann made every encounter, every opportunity we worked together an amazing experience. She always had a way of making my heart smile and was always there to listen during my toughest times. She was my earthly Angel and MaryAnn gave me my Arlington County stage name “Miss. Movie Star”. It stuck for years and we often got a lot of laugh milage from the acceptance of it all. I will always hold her memories deep in my heart. I send deepest condolences to the family and many more she bought pieces of her heart to. 🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️

I always looked forward to seeing Mrs. Jackson at the end of my day when I picked up my kids. She was one of those rare types that could let "fun" and "order" coexist at the same time. She let the kids play and blow off steam, while always keeping peace, harmony, and love in the room. My favorite memory - I was in a full panic when I realized the day before the year began that I had forgotten to register my son for Extended Day. She let me sneak him in, giving me plenty of well-deserved grief, with good humor, for my crazed-working-mom-memory lapse. I'll think of her every time I see a magnet-tile, melting-bead craft, or the inflatable saxophone that still joins us from the talent show in 2019.
To her family- our deepest condolences for your loss, she touched so many lives.

Mrs. Jackson was part of what made Long Branch so special when my daughters were students there. She drove the success of that Extended Day program, creating a safe space for kids to have fun and play. So many kids and families relied on that program, enjoyed it, and thrived because of her. We have many wonderful memories of those years (as well as a slime recipe she graciously shared with us). Mrs. Jackson herself was a role model for the kids and a trusted adult in their lives who was always calm and caring. She was a truly remarkable person who made a difference in this world. Sending heartfelt condolences to her family.

MaryAnn Hazel-Jackson was an amazing person, and she made Long Branch extended day a truly special place. She was completely unflappable, and she brought a sense of calm, patience and caring to every situation. Our daughters loved extended day and have many happy memories of their time there (and a few treasured craft projects). MaryAnn created a warm and fun (but disciplined) environment, and for working parents, it was a relief to know that your kids were safe and happy. As the saying goes, "it takes a village." We were incredibly fortunate that MaryAnn was part of our village and are eternally grateful for her. She will be greatly missed, and our sincere condolences to her family.

Words cannot describe how much we loved MaryAnn Hazel-Jackson. She was the BEST and will be missed by so many. We owe so much to her for all of those wonderful years our girls spent in Extended Day at Long Branch. All of the stories here are so familiar. Our girls like everyone else loved extended day and hated leaving at the end of the day. She was the heart behind it all. May her memory be a blessing.

Both my children, Jack and Giuliana, had the honor and privilege of having Mrs Jackson as their additional parent after school each day. She kept order out of chaos. She made sure the children were entertained. She organized the best talent shows. She was a rock and one of the hearts of Long Branch.

MaryAnn was such a wonderful gift to our community! Not only did she provide a warm, fun, and safe place for our kids after school, she made it possible for working parents to know their kids were with someone who truly cared about them. We still have some of the many craft projects MaryAnn provided for our girls. I will continue to cherish them! I am so sorry we have lost such a special lady.... Sending hugs to her family...
