Mardy graduated from Tuloso Midway High School, Corpus Christi, TX, in the Class of 1963. She was in the Tuloso Midway band from 3rd grade to her Senior year. She competed in State level band competitions numerous times. One of her highest accomplishments and fondest memories in High School was being a Feature Twirler for the Tuloso Midway High School Band. She was loved by so many in school and remained in contact with most of them up until her final days.

Mardy started her career as a secretary in 1963. She married the love of her life, the late Sidney Burleson Weikel Jr., on March 5, 1964. After enjoying some time as just the two of them, they had the first of seven kids in March of 1970. She loved to write and even wrote a column called Kids ‘N Kindness for the Victoria Advocate Newspaper in the early 1980’s. Except for a few years selling World Book Encyclopedias, Mom spent a majority of our childhood years as a Homemaker. She loved to sew and bake, and we often came home from school to fresh baked cookies or banana bread.

After her husband retired, they settled on their Sunset Acres in Harwood, TX and enjoyed making memories with their kids and grandkids. With the help of their kids, they built their retirement home. They loved watching the beautiful sunsets sitting out on their property.

The memories she has left our family will live on forever in our hearts.
