I was very sad when I heard the news of Mary's passing.

My name is Katherine.  I am the oldest of Mary's nieces. Her older sister Louise was my mother. My earliest memories of my aunt Mary are her reading stories to me when I was very little. I also have vivid memories of her playing the cello.  She was only 7 years older than me so we connected on a child's level early in my life. I will miss her art, her wit, her humor, and most of all her ability to share herself.

I was very glad that I was able to visit with her before she passed. I visited her along with my other sister only days before she passed.  During that visit she pointed my attention to a photograph on her piano. She's talked about this photo many times in the past. It is a photo of her as a toddler holding the hand of her older sister, Louise walking through the yard. She pointed to that photo three times during my visit with her that day. I firmly believe that her older sister was speaking to her. She is with her sister Louise, my mother, holding hands once again.
