Mary's obituary
Mrs. Nelle Pope Thigpen, age 87, of Lyons, died Thursday, December 4, 2014 in Oxley Park Health and Rehabilitation in Lyons after an extended illness. She was a native of Laurens County, living in Johnson County for several years, and moved to Toombs County in 1945. She was a salesperson at Bailey’s Department for fifteen years, and was a member of the Live Oak Community Club in Lyons. She was a charter member of the Trinity Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, Brooks Thigpen in 1999; and a brother, Thurman Pope.
Mrs. Thigpen is survived by two sons, Brent Thigpen and wife Ellan of Hoover, Alabama, and Greg Thigpen and wife Beverly of Lyons; five grandchildren, Jana O’Conner of Vidalia, Michael Thigpen of Lyons, Josh Thigpen of Vidalia, Brooke Kennedy of Vidalia, and Anna Thigpen of Hoover; six great-grandchildren, Owen, Lucas, Julianne, Eli, Asher, and Adalynn; several nieces and nephews, numerous dear friends.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 6th at 3:00 p.m. in the Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Vinson officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
