Mary's obituary

Mary "Mae" Silva, a beacon of unwavering optimism and love, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on October 2, 1939, Mae was best known for her radiant smile, which she shared generously with everyone she met, no matter the challenges she faced.

Her preferred name, Mae, perfectly reflected her compassionate, motherly spirit. Caregivers cherished her as a "second mother," drawn to her infectious positivity and warm personality that made everyone feel seen and valued.

Family was the heart of Mae's world, and her boundless love for them shone through every day. She is survived by her children: daughters Diane Bradshaw, Jo-Ann Martin, and Karen McCann; and son Jack Silva. She was also survived by her grandchildren: Diane's daughters Raven Andrade and Sage Deltenre; Jack's daughter Taylor Silva and son Jared Silva; and Karen's sons Jim McCann, Paul Hawkins, and John Hawkins and daughter Jade Cottonwood; as well as her two great-grandchildren. The memories they all shared stand as a lasting testament to her devotion as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In September 1999, Mae suffered a debilitating stroke that profoundly changed her life. The stroke affected her speech, leaving her unable to speak clearly as the muscles required were impacted. It also resulted in the loss of function in her dominant right arm and right leg; though she could walk briefly at first, the effort soon became too great, and she became wheelchair-bound for over 15 years. Through these difficult decades, Mae's resilience shone brightest—her smile never faded, and her optimistic spirit continued to uplift those around her, turning adversity into a quiet testimony of grace and strength.

Mae had a wonderful appreciation for music—Oldies and Country filled her days with joy—and her favorite TV show was Walker, Texas Ranger. She treasured quality time with family above all else as her favorite "recreation."

An avid traveler at heart, Mae loved Florida and Las Vegas, eventually making Las Vegas, Nevada, her home. A good Piña Colada always added a little extra zest to her vibrant life.

Mae's journey was a powerful example of resilience and positive thinking through adversity. Her enduring smile and optimistic spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her. May her memory continue to inspire us to spread love, compassion, and light—even on the hardest days.
