Sue was my best friend from the time we moved to 5140 Ambs Rd. She was “Ethel “ to my “Lucy,”  and I’m sure Mr & Mrs Schratz sometimes wished I did not get her involved in my latest idea ( neighborhood shows, Cardinals dreams, our own shared apartment, Stamp Club, parades…) even poor Judy & my sister Linda got involved. I’ll never forget Judy playing Lin’s boyfriend and singing  and whistling “Love Letters in the Sand,” and the time I was twirling my baton and Chuck changed the speed of my music to very fast  I almost threw the baton at him!!!

A funny story about Sue was when she fell out of Schratz’s car and one foot was run over.  We listened to Mr Schratz calling the insurance company a few days later and he said that he had run over his daughter’s “back leg.”  He meant that it was with the “back tire” but he was nervous .  We rolled on the floor laughing that Sue was a horse with four legs! Ooh did we get in trouble!!

We had so much fun growing up in the “fifties.” Sue was an important part of our escapades!!  I miss her so much!!—Bettsey Lutz Barhorst
