Mary's obituary

Mary Ellen Ohotto (Wallace), age 68, of Taylors Falls, MN passed away September 7, 2021 from ALS. She was born June 10, 1953 in Worthington, MN to John and Clarice Wallace. She was one of six children and grew up with a close-knit group of cousins. In April of 1973 she gave birth to her son, Matthew and on July 27th, 2002 she married Doug Ohotto, the love of her life.

She was an avid reader and found great happiness losing herself in a book next to the lake at their cabin in Wisconsin. She also enjoyed traveling. Trips included yearly excursions to South Padre Island, where she and Doug met many good friends and two Caribbean cruises with her family. Most recently a cruise in December of 2019, highlighted by a day of sailing in St. Thomas. She also had a lifelong dream to go to Greece and made that dream come true in 2013.

Mary was a compassionate, loving person that was committed to her own education and growth as well as the well-being of anyone else that came to know her. She was a recovering alcoholic and was 30 years sober at the time of her passing. She took great pride in that accomplishment and used her experiences to help others in recovery. She went back to school later in life, got her degree from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate school of Addiction Studies and became a Chemical Dependency Counselor for the Hazelden Foundation. There’s no question she touched many lives.

She was a wonderful Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Cousin and Friend. As Doug puts it, “she was special”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Clarice Wallace and siblings, James, Katy and Mark Wallace.

Mary is survived by her Husband, Douglas; her Son Matthew (Nicole) Feikema; her grandchildren Caitlin (James) Kearney, Chelsea Hueffmeier, Emily Huffmeier, Ozkar and Delilah Bauer and Mataya Czech and great-grandchildren Bronson and Lana Cole. She is also survived by sister Ann Lais and brother Thomas (Regina) Wallace as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. All of whom she loved and cherished deeply.
