Mary's obituary

Mrs. Mary Pauline Allen Odom, age 97, of Metter, died Sunday, June 11, 2023, at her daughter’s home after a sudden illness. She was born in Treutlen County, later attended Alston School, and was a graduate of Brewton-Parker High School in Mt. Vernon. In 1946, she married her late husband, who was in the Navy, and they lived in several places along the east coast. After his retirement, they moved to Florida, and lived in Altamonte Springs for many years before moving to Metter to be with her daughter in 2022. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Longwood, Florida. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, yard work and working with her church. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Morris Odom; three sons, John Alan Odom, David Morris Odom, and an infant son, Danny Odom; parents, James Joshua Allen, Jr. and Rosalie Walker Odom; and five brothers, Royce Allen, Jemell “R.J.” Allen, Maurice Allen, Billy Allen, and Melvin Allen.

Her family includes one daughter, Linda Odom White and husband Charles of Metter; three grandchildren, Scott Julian of Loganville, Bobby Julian of Talmo, and Brentley Gupton of Mobile, Alabama; one great-grandson, Skylar Gupton; two sisters, Betty Allen Morris of Uvalda, and Barbara Allen Hart and husband “Cub” of Alston; one brother, Jerry Allen of Fayetteville, North Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Ethelene Beasley Allen of Vidalia, Margie Allen of Savannah, and Carolyn Odom Connell Parker of Bear Creek Community; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Friday morning, June 16th, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Reece Mincey officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
