Mary's obituary

Mary Jean Millard (nee Neathery), 73, of Pahrump, NV, passed away on February 2, 2020 after living a long, rich and passionate life.

Mary was born on August 25, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland to James E. Neathery, Jr. and Jean Neathery (nee McCulloch). She spent most of her childhood in the Miami, Florida area, attending North Miami Senior High School. She had a multitude of careers, from working for attorneys to being a Medical Coder/Transcriber. In her later years, she even attended Community College, studying to be a Nursing Assistant.

In the mid 1990’s, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. She spent a few years in Arizona, and then came back to Nevada. She had just moved from Pahrump to Las Vegas to be cared for by her daughter, Cheryl, when she unexpectedly passed. Always a fighter, Mary had previously beaten breast cancer twice. She had just discovered that the cancer had returned, and the Lord determined that Mary didn’t need to go a third round and summoned her home.

Mary had a number of loves and each marriage was unique and special. Joseph Shipske, Harvey Kolchner, Richard Ordaye, and Ray Millard all had the honor of having her as a bride.

She had three wonderful children who she cherished very much, Cheryl, Catherine, and Daniel.

Mary was predeceased by her parents and her two brothers (James E. (Ned) Neathery, III and Steven Joseph Neathery). She is survived by one sister (Bonnie Hickman), three children (Cheryl Shipske, Catherine Remington, Daniel Feliciano), eight grandchildren (Michael Ruiz, Jr., Alexandra Heventhal, Jaylin Shipske, Malachi Shipske, Hunter Feliciano, Aiden Feliciano, Alyssa Feliciano and Harmony Feliciano), four great-grandchildren (Gabriel, Tatiana, Jasmine and Isabella), three nephews (Seth Neathery, David Hickman and Steven Neathery, Jr.) two nieces (Wendy Neathery-Wise, Rachel Rumple), brother-in-law (Ed Hickman) and other family and friends scattered all over the country.

All of the facts above do not really capture the indomitable spirit that was Mary. She was sometimes larger-than-life and loudly and passionately opinionated. She would talk to strangers without hesitation, seeking connection. Her eyes sparkled when she was planning a surprise or telling stories. Even when she was struggling, she would think of others and try to help ease their pain. She was often world-weary, but would find solace in spirituality. She tried many different belief systems and found lasting peace in the LDS church, which she joined over 20 years ago. Mary’s family keenly feels her loss, but are grateful that her pain has ended.

A small service will be held at the LDS church in Pahrump, NV on February 5, 2020 at 11am.
