Mary is survived by her sisters Jean Mellor (Murray) and Eliza Rezatorzski, her five children; Donald Dee Luther Jr (Michelle), Curtis Lea Luther (Karen), Cindy Ann Ober, Brenda Kay Davies, Nancy Jo Lambertson(Steve). Thirteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Hans Christian Johnson, her mother, Anna Jean (Shaner) Johnson, Brothers Neils Johnson and Ralph Johnson.
Mary Ann was born on 31 July, 1933 in Ainsworth, Nebraska to Hans Christian Johnson and Anna Jean (Shaner) Johnson. She graduated from Brown County Senior High school in 1951. She married Donald Luther Sr in 1952(divorced in 1977). Together they had 5 children and Mary Ann set about teaching them right from wrong and how to love and be generous. Her children remember her as the most loving, giving, generous and kind woman who always encouraged them to pursue their goals. She greeted life’s challenges with a laugh and a smile. She always found the best in every person she met. She was loved by all who knew her.
Mary began her married life as an Army Wife. From there she became a housewife and mother living on a farm and caring for her children. We have voted her to be the best mother ever! In the late 60’s they purchased the Corral Bar in Bassett, Nebraska where she served as waitress, cook, event planner and even bouncer on occasion. She also worked at the Range Cafe as a waitress for a number of years. She loved playing pranks on the patrons on April Fool’s day. After 25 years of marriage she divorced and moved to Norfolk, Nebraska. She started working at the Norfolk Public Library where she was able to share her love for books. She also worked for the American Legion Club as a waitress on the weekends. She and Nancy moved to Colorado in 1980 where she worked several jobs including, Trans America Title, the Aurora Senior Center, cleaning houses for older folks, until she settled into a Media Para position with the Aurora Public schools where she retired in 2011. She was a hardworking, generous fun loving individual who loved baking, singing crocheting and was passionate about her children and grandchildren. She was an active and dedicated member of Burns United Methodist Church. She also belonged to an organization called Parents Without Partners and the Beta Sigma Phi Serority.
