Mrs. Lareau was so loving, kind, and generous. I’ll forever be grateful for her and Mr. Lareau’s hospitality in letting me rent a room in their house for a summer while I was in college so I could be closer to where I was working. From the first time I met her at the Christian Family Living center in Topsail Island, I always appreciated her gentle and kind essence. Her and Bob’s love was evident and her memory will live on with me.
Mary will be missed by her fellow "Wednesday Women" at Resurrection Catholic Church here at Smith Mt. Lake. Her wonderful sense of humor was punctuated by an impish smile. She was always willing to lend her talents to the various craft projects going on at any one time. Early on, Mary solidified her reputation as our official "Bow Lady." From giant displays to tiny embellishments on Christmas ornaments, Mary never met a ribbon she couldn't tame. Our meetings won't be the same without her generosity of spirit and positive presence.
So sorry to hear about Mary's passing. She was a faithful member of St. Michael Quilt group. We made her a comfort quilt when she was recuperating from a bad car accident some years ago. She and Bob dropped by with goodies at important times in my life, when my husband died and when I suffered a back injury. Just always there when you needed her. Thinking of others. She is missed.
I am sorry to hear about Mary’s passing. She was always a delight to talk with. I met her at the church quilting group and enjoyed seeing her weekly since her sense of humor was infectious. She sure loved “the lake”
I know she will be missed by all her friends and family
She was never negative, if she didn’t agree with something or someone, she’d simply go home and pray for you. Jesus’s love was shown through Grandma Mary to anyone she met.
I first met Mary camping at Smith Mountain Lake. She was so kind and fun to talk to. She always had stories about her and Bob’s adventures. She was such a positive happy person. I remember her talking about struggling to gain her strength back after the car accident and instead of complaining about how hard it was, she was making jokes about her struggles to screw in a lightbulb. She was always genuinely interested in how you were doing whenever she asked and always had some wisdom to pass along. She will be greatly missed.
