Mary Jo Colistro-Torres, a beacon of love, generosity, and wisdom, peacefully passed away on January 19, 2026, in Glendale, Arizona. Born on May 5, 1945, in Pueblo, Colorado. She was raised on Elm St and was very proud to be part of this Italian neighborhood.
From a young age, Mary Jo's radiant smile and warm heart drew people from all walks of life. She was a friend to many and a stranger to none, with her loving nature touching countless lives. Her generosity knew no bounds, always putting the needs of others before her own.
As she matured, Mary Jo's wisdom became a guiding light for her community. Her sage advice was sought after by friends and family alike, and she dispensed her insights with kindness and humility. Her words often provided comfort and clarity to those navigating life's complexities. Mary Jo's presence was a source of stability and strength, and her legacy of wisdom continues to live on in the stories shared by those who knew her.
Mary Jo's professional life was marked by a passion for education. As a beloved teacher, she inspired her students to pursue their dreams with tenacity and courage. Mary Jo was fluent in Italian and Spanish, using that gift to teach "English as a Secondary Language". Mary Jo's hobbies included music, travel, dancing and definitely cooking. Her music was her source of joy. One minute she'd be listening to Dean Martin, the next Harry Belafonte ending with her all time favorite Mariachi Music! In her younger years she was blessed to have traveled to numerous parts of the world, adding fond memories to her book of journeys. Cooking and Baking was her testament to her patience and care, as she tended to her recipes with the same tenderness she showed to her loved ones. Handing down the tradition to her Children and Grandchildren. Her kitchen was not only a source of joy for Mary Jo but also a place of tranquility and reflection for her family and friends.
Mary Jo's unconditional love for her children was clearly the main purpose of her life. Mary Beth, Jennifer (Scotty) Roberto (Loraine) Roseanna (Nick ) Maurina (Chuck) Jesus. She treasured and adored 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Mary Jo had a very special and loving relationship with all of her siblings; Mickey, Tony, Joe, Johnny, Cathy, Gina, Susan, Bobbi Jo and all of their families. Her legacy is one of unconditional love, selfless giving, and profound wisdom. Her impact on the world is immeasurable, and her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we say goodbye to Mary Jo Colistro-Torres, we celebrate the extraordinary life she led and the countless ways she enriched the lives of others. Her spirit will forever be felt in the gentle kindness of a helping hand, the nurturing guidance of a wise word, and the enduring beauty of a well-tended garden.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held January 29, 2026 at 9:30 am followed by the Memorial Mass at 10 am at St.Joseph's Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place immediately following the mass at Roselawn Cemetery. Gathering with Family and Friends will proceed after. Live stream information will be available soon.
