I first met Mary and her husband when I became engaged to her son-in-law's brother. I have often commented that Mary had the fountain of youth stashed someone within her reach because she never "aged" and always looked and acted the same, especially with her laugh and smile. For a short while, she was the companion for my Grandma who was living with dementia. Knowing my Grandma was not alone during the day was a huge relief for my family. Mary with her gentle ways helped my Grandma get through her confusion. Mary should have been named Marigold due to her passion for flowers. She didn't just have a green thumb but a green hand! Carolyn's yard is a testament to Mary's love of flowers. She will be missed by those who knew her well and I am glad to have known her.
We are so sorry to hear about your mum' passing, which we read last week on the 'Roscommon Herald'. All the more heart-wrenching it must be for you all coming so soon after Tommy's death. We have so fond memories of the Brennan family back in the days when you lived in Roscommon. Mary Ellen was so well respected and well liked by everyone who encountered her. A true lady. Deepest condolences to you all.
