My sincere condolences to Mary's family. I first met her as a gardener for Lupin, working in Moseley gardens alongside her for a short period. Even though I didn't know her well at the time, I felt she was a person of a very different and rare caliber, smart, hard-working, genuine, straightforward and unassuming. I found myself back into her orbit years later, socially. It made me very happy to reacquaint myself with her down to earth, enthusiastic, no nonsense approach to life, culture and politics. I really looked forward to knowing her better. Sadly, this was not meant to be but Mary's energy and example will remain in my heart. I will miss her very much.

Mary, though many years have passed, I remember with fondness your energy, the joy-filled company and delicious meals, like it was yesterday. May you be free from pain and suffering, and be at peace.

Condolence to the family. Whenever I find myself with a problem to solve in my career I would ask myself the question What would Mary do?
I would always have fond memories of her. She was my mentor, my role model my friend.

There aren’t many people who you can say made a real difference in the world but Mary did. She packed so much into her short life and touched many people. She will leave a huge gap. Till we meet again Mary.
Love and thoughts to her husband and sons.

I was lucky enough to work with Mary in both the Renal Unit and R&D over many years. First and foremost the patients were her priority and a very close second were the "team" whether that be the big family of the renal unit or the research team. She encouraged, supported, but could also be that critical friend when required which I both valued and respected. We work with lots of people over the years but some you never forget. Mary is one of them.

I look back at my time as the lead research nurse at the QE extremely fondly and count myself fortunate to have worked alongside Mary for over 3 years (2014-2017). For me, she embodied the ultimate nurse, who I deeply respected. She spoke out convincing the Chief Nurse that research nurses should have permanent contracts and ending a constant headache for me needing to complete so many WAFs (workforce allocation forms) to ensure everyone got paid.
“Nursing is a progressive art such that to stand still is to go backward.” – Florence Nightingale.
Mary knew this and always looked to be moving the service on and what more she could do. Thank you for making my job easy and for being you.

Mary impacted hearts and minds. She changed what I thought was possible for nurses to achieve. She has been and continues to be a massive influence in my career. She has inspired many by her tireless work within research, but also by her sheer grit and determination.
I hope she knew how loved she was, I hope she knew how much she impacted people. She leaves a strong legacy, that time will not erode. She is deeply missed.
