I was so sad to hear of Mary’s passing. She will be missed by so many.

I had the pleasure of working with Mary and looked up to her immensely; she was the single greatest influence in my professional life. Her passion and fight will never be forgotten. Rest in peace my friend x

I was shocked when I got the news of Mary's passing. She was a key figure in the success of my PhD work a few years ago. I couldn't have done it without her unwavering support. I always felt welcomed at the Renal Unit and remember hours passed working and giggling as Mary came up with a regular flow of witty comments. I also know of her solid support of the careers of other members of the team. 

My heartfelt condolences to the family. She will be greatly missed!

My heart goes out to Louis, Harry & Paresh at the loss of their beloved Mary.  She clearly had a monumental influence on so many of us that she worked with so I can only imagine what kind of mother & wife she would have been! Thinking of you after you have said your final goodbyes & wishing you the strength & love to get through this huge, tragic loss. May your journey ahead be guided & shaped by wonderful shared memories xxx

Wherever Mary is I hope she knows that I had great respect for her and held her in high esteem. For me she was the matriarchal of the renal team. A passionate, intellectual, caring individual that not only wanted what was best for her patients but also for her colleagues. At meetings she would ask the intellectual and probing questions that usually got eyes rolling but they were always important and thought-provoking questions or comments. I personally looked up and admired who she was as an individual with her own mind, a woman, a mother and a wife. Prior to her going on retirement she called our office and I thought she wanted to discuss one of the basket studies. However, she called as she said she wanted to personally tell me she was retiring, they were not having a big leaving do but a few drinks at the pub. Of course, I said yes, having been touched by the call and it would provide me with an opportunity to wish her well on her next journey.

I never had the opportunity to tell her face to face how much I both admired her and respected her but I am sure what I have said will resonate with others.

It is so sad to know that her time on mother earth with her family (what pain Paresh, Louis and Harry must be enduring) and those close to her have come to an end. That she journeys onwards to new beginnings where life is without challenges and all is well. I know she will always have a special place in your heart. 

What an incredible woman!  It was a privilege to work with Mary. She was such an inspiration for us all, I will certainly be channelling my inner Mary for many years to come, she will be missed. X

I knew Mary, firstly through tennis and then through work although we worked at different Trusts until recently. You were a great sounding board Mary - passionate about any projects you undertook from the junior tennis program at Moseley Tennis Club through to renal research. I visited your Orchard at MTC earlier this week and although it looks bleak at present, I know in the months to come it will bloom again and people will enjoy the fruits of your labour. Similarly through work, you have left a legacy through your colleagues and work undertaken. It’s a shame you didn’t get an opportunity of earning the retirement you truly deserve. Our thoughts  are with Paresh, Louis and Harry.

Dearest Mary,  I first met you via Annie Atkinson at the QE. You were the most amazing teacher, role model and friend. I last saw you at BRS where we had a wonderful catch up. As ever, you were brimming with enthusiasm and life.  So sad that you are no longer with us Mary, sleep peacefully. Xxx

I met Mary when I joined the Renal Research Team in 2018. Her passion for nursing, improving patient care and always questioning never stopped. Mary always made you feel that you could have a positive impact on peoples lives. She truly was an inspiration and I feel lucky to have known her.

I will sincerely miss her professional guidance but mostly her spirit, humour and sense of fun.

Mary was not only a trusted colleague, she became a good friend. She was without doubt the biggest influence of my professional life and gave me the confidence to take opportunities I never thought I would have.  Mary was passionate about research and the profession of nursing, and that passion was contagious. Mary was fearless, never shy to give her opinion but always ready to listen to others. I will miss her calm pragmatism, but it is her sense of humour I will miss most.  I am so grateful to have known Mary and have many happy memories I will treasure.

Mary had the ability to make you feel your contribution was always valid and useful however small, she always made you feel you could be better, and do more in any situation, it was a privilege to work so closely with her for so long.  I will always miss her, but will think of her whenever I catch the scent of sweet peas on the wind.

Mary made the dentists feel very welcome in the renal team. We were fortunate that she was there and we all miss her sorely (Praveen, Amneet, Mutty and Iain)

I met Mary on the WTRF at the QE in 2005. She was full of encouragement as I started my own research nursing path. I was so lucky to get to work with her again a few years later. She was so passionate about the patients, her colleagues and the research that you couldn’t help but want to sit, listen and learn from her. She was often the voice that was needed- the matriarch when there was an obstacle or an issue.  If you needed help, you could go to Mary and she just knew what needed to be done. She was an inspiration.  She will be so dearly missed. 

My sincere condolences to her family and friends at this very sad time. 

Mary was an amazing woman and nurse who was a true inspiration. I worked with Mary in renal and will not forget her kindness, passion and dedication in helping others to achieve their goals. She will be an enormous loss to all and be greatly missed. 
I worked with Mary on ward West 3 & CAPD in the 1980/90”s and continued to work along side her in Renal since her return to nursing. Mary was an amazing inspirational women, full of wisdom and will never be forgotten. She helped make me the nurse I am today she advocated to strive for the best possible care and  encouraged to question practices when needed. She was a true fighter in everything she did.  My heart goes out to her family x

The start of a lovely few days away at Godolphin House - beer and rugby featured strongly & Mary was brilliant at explaining the rules to us newcomers to the sport! It was great to reconnect with Mary who we’d known years before when she ran the tennis juniors with such energy and care.
I was at a low point in my life and career when I met Mary. She gave me a chance, believed in me, inspired me, and gave me invaluable opportunities. It was a privilege to know and to work with her, and I am a better nurse and a better person because of her. That was Mary, she touched lives for the good and I am sure will live on in each and every one of us who were lucky enough to know her. Rest in peace beautiful Mary, I will miss you 💔 xxx
