While visiting Christine and Paul in Newport RI, we went to Dos Yankees for dinner. Christine commented to me that she loved to dance but could never get Paul to dance with her. The music was playing and I watched as she walked up to Paul and grabbed his hand and pulled him on the dance floor and they danced. It was a very sweet moment. I realized then what a strong-willed woman she was who was not afraid to step out and convince my brother to dance no matter who was watching. She was a remarkable woman. It has occurred to me that Christine was way ahead of her time. She was speaking out for injustices, women's rights, long before the world was aware of these things. She knew gardening and cooking like no one else. She would have made Martha Stewart jealous. Our Mom, Elsie Jacob, would comment about the time she and Dad spent in Newport with Christine and Paul and what a great cook Christine was. Christine shared many recipes with Mom, including her quiche recipe which Mom made for us many times. I always think of Christine when I open the New School Cook Book and look for new recipes. What an inspiration she has been to so many people. What a legacy!
We (Martha & I), met Miss Christine when we bought our home two years ago next to hers. The moment we met Ms. Christine, we realized how vivacious and loving she was. Over the period of time, we exchanged pleasantries and she always wore such infectious smiles. Martha always referred Ms. Christine as her "tomato buddy". Her memories will always remain a treasure in our lives. Sleep on Ms. Christine until we meet again in paradise.
The condolences for Chris can be seen on the June 9, 2018, "Knitting Paradise" website edition, if you wanted to see them. Sorry I didn't give that info to you in my previous post to you. Connie A.
To the family and friends of Christine: I personally did not know Christine, but she had many, many friends on the website, Knitting Paradise, who were made aware of her passing by a friend of hers there, and I just wanted to let you know she has been receiving so many comments and condolences about her and to your family by those who remember her. We all feel it is our loss to not have known her personally. I'm sure all of the members of Knitting Paradise wish to offer their sympathy to her friends and family.
2010 L.A. Times Finalist (Rum Diamonds, top right) - If you never had the honor of tasting Mama J's Christmas cookies, you missed an opportunity to experience true culinary talent and skills.
Mom, with newborn Andrew and her parents, John (on her right) and Rosalie (in orange), my aunt Arlene and Uncle Sal, and cousins Brownwyn and Airi. My dad Paul, the Redhead, and then me in front. Andy's christening gown hand knitted by mom, and strung with yellow ribbon. years later, she re-strung that gown with pink for her first granddaughter - Amy wore the gown after her christening. Definitely a cherished family heirloom on our side of the family.
This is to honor Christine as the great woman who bore and raised the beautiful Joanna, who agreed to marry my son Ian. With all love and sympathy to her family and friends.
