Jane's obituary

Mrs. Mary Jane Callihan age 97, passed away peacefully August 9 in the presence of her oldest daughter, Marta. She was born on October 10, 1927 in Anderson Indiana to parents Kenneth and Trula (Beaman) Fowler.

Jane made friends with everyone she met, was known for her positive nature, her ability to laugh at herself and make others laugh.

A lover of fashion, Jane enjoyed many occupations through her long life beginning at age 16 in women’s clothing. She combined her passion of shoes and business by opening the J & J Shoe Store in Bloomington Indiana in 1960 expanding it to three locations. More occupations included factory work, soldering technician at RCA, fashion merchandising, farming, and even running a family restaurant. Later in life she shared her generous spirit as a teacher at The Kiva Elementary School in Scottsdale, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by two siblings, Wanda Lehla O’Dell, Robert Earl Fowler and two husbands Jack E. Davenport (25 years) and George M. Callihan (25 years) and three sons, J. Erich, Robert Bryan, and John Marshall Davenport.

Matriarch of 5 generations Jane is survived by Daughter Marta Jane Tompkins, son-in-law William Harry Tompkins, daughter Cristie Blair Anderson and son-in-law Bryan Dale Anderson. Grandchildren: Kimberly, David, Jordan, and Daniel. Great grandchildren: Kyle, Gwendolyn, Benjamin, Denali. Great great grandchildren: Emma and Tikaani.

Upon marrying her beloved George, Jane became stepmom to Cynthia Jeannette Gray, Janice Lynn Callihan, Mary Katherine Padgett, George Michael Callihan, and Rebecca Amelia Maestas. Grand step children: Rachel, Shannon, Keiran, Sara, Anna, Gabriel, Troy, Shawn, Clay, Sebastian and Briana. Great Grand step children: David, Joshua, and Kaylee.

She was loved by all her children, grand children, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. Jane will be missed.
