Mary at local car show on a c…
Mary at local car show on a cold day in May at DeVry in North Brunswick. Mary, in her Drive wheelchair, with her pink sneakers, enjoyed the vintage automobiles.
She married my brother. Was incredibly nice to people, Awesome cook, even though she was Polish cooked delicious Italian for my brother and family. Even hand printed personal recipes for me which I treasure to this day. Took care of me when I was disabled and could not walk after spinal surgery. She was a kind soul. We will miss her.
I met Mary and my husband on the same day, in Mary’s kitchen. We were all going to an INN Gathering and Mary decided to have a pre-party before the gathering. She was so easy to talk with and the three of us became very good friends. She would cook for us and I have to say every time we ate with her it was like having the food from a five-star restaurant! When my son was going to rehab Mary would take me to see him because I could not drive there. She was always there for me. Mary, Michael and I used to attend Doo-Wop concerts together, do lots of clothes shopping at Boscov’s and even took some vacations together to Gettysburg. We have so many fond memories! I miss my best friend so much. She will be with me always, in my heart.
I met Mary on INN (an online community for gaming).
My mom had a massive stroke a few months earlier and I had just gotten my 1st job soon after. My brothers were harrassing me about our mom (she needs clothes, etc.) I didn't drive and Mary said if I rented a car, she'll take me to see my mom (I lived in Queens, and my mom was in Connecticut.) If it wasn't for Mary, I wouldn't have been able to see my mom.
Mary even helped me get mental help after my anxiety attacks (due to my brothers, really long story).
She invited me over to her home on weekends, saying "Your brothers can't bother you if they can't find you."
To say, she saved me, is not an exaggeration.
From the first time I met her on South 9th in Highland Park (which incidentally had the steepest basement steps I've ever seen!), where we'd go down to play video games and with WWF or ThunderCats figures, to South 4th where we'd watch Saturday morning cartoons and Pee-Wee's Playhouse, Mary was like a second mom to me... many times, more like a first mom.

I can remember going to my first concert ever with her. Earth Day in Central Park and I was probably 11 or 12 maybe. REM and the B-52's and Mary took Paul and I there and then we all hung around the city and went to the comic store Forbidden Planet.

One of the best memories I have as a kid was Paul and I always going snake hunting in the Donaldson Park woods. We would catch them and then sometimes sell them to a pet store in Metuchen for a dollar per snake and Mary would always be the one driving us there and encouraging us to just be kids and have fun, while simultaneously letting us know that we'd get our ass's kicked if one of those snakes got out... which it did once in her bathroom :)

I was that knucklehead kid that would just come in and out of her house unannounced like family. Somehow, she'd always have something to eat ready (which isn't easy for a group of teenage boys) and the house always smelled like she had been cooking all day ("Mary's hometown cooking"). I can honestly still smell it now. Particularly when we'd go rake leaves or shovel snow for some extra cash, that we'd head over to the Rt. 1 Flea Market with, we'd come back, exhausted with wrinkled pruned hands, to that feeling of a warm and cozy home that she created and welcomed us back in. I will cherish those days forever.

Rest in peace Mary and thank you for every little thing you've done for me, I'm not sure I ever expressed, or even understood at that time, how much it meant.
My mother enjoying time with …
My mother enjoying time with our little niece.
A memory I have is when I returned to my family's house after I was living somewhere else, I opened the door our dog Logan attacked me. She was cooking her famous lasagna and immediately stopped and ran to the door to calm down our dog. The smell of the meal she was preparing drifted through the house. She treated our family and friends with amazing meals that were literally addictive. I always wanted to see exactly what she was putting into the meals. so maybe one day I could make her draw dropping dishes.
What I remember and cherish most about mom is how she taught me to love the little things in life. She could find happiness each and every day just spending time with family or reading a good book in the sun. Her love for reading was one of the best attributes she passed on to me. I tried to pinpoint a favorite memory and it was hard as there are many but one family tradition she used to orchestrate really comes to mind.
I used to always look forward to decorating the Christmas tree each year with her. She would break out boxes and boxes of ornaments, some traditional, some handmade, some super-hero or star wars based for me, and we would pick through the boxes carefully finding the perfect place on the tree for each one.
It was always a yearly family tradition I loved.
