Mary's obituary

Mary Ellen Roeser

February 23, 1952 - May 31, 2025

Mary Ellen Roeser, age 73, passed away peacefully in Kodiak, Alaska, on May 31, 2025.

Mary was born to Beatrice (Howard) Spradlin and George Allen on February 23, 1952, in El Paso,

Texas as the youngest of seven siblings. At an early age, she moved with her family to Juneau, Alaska and attended JD High, later making Haines her home for many years. Throughout life’s journeys Mary resided in New Mexico, Florida, Nevada and Colorado, but her heart was always anchored in Alaska, where the mountains and ocean felt like home. Mary retired in Kodiak where she lived happily with her cherished partner, Timm Smart, for the last 13 years.Mary wore many hats throughout her life. She was an entrepreneur, owned a clothing store, a bar, owned and managed a motel, coached high school cheerleading, was a fair coordinator, and was instrumental in numerous other successful business operations. No matter what the role, Mary was always helping others shine. Whether she was planning a lively gathering or serving as the quiet force behind the scenes, she poured her artistic creativity and vision into everything she did. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mary is survived by her children, Tammy, Thomas, and Dawn; her grandchildren, Elise, Makayla, Tyler, Brandon, Payton, and Todd (TJ); her great-grandchildren, Owen, Cameron, Aiden, Jaxson and another great-grandson on the way; her sister, BZ (Ed); her brothers, Thomas and John (Judy), numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved partner, Timm, who has been her rock and best friend. She also leaves behind countless friends who became family over the years. Her bright smile and infectious laughter were her signature, lighting up every room and every heart she touched. Mary’s warmth, kindness, and adventurous spirit will be remembered and missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. We will forever carry her smile and laughter in our hearts.
