Marvis's obituary

In Loving Memory of Marvis Johnson

Sunrise: December 14, 1979, Sunset: August 14, 2025

With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Marvis Johnson, who departed this life on August 14, 2025, in Galveston, Texas. Born on December 14, 1979, in the same beloved city, Marvis lived a life marked by resilience, love, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Marvis was a man of quiet strength and deep conviction. To know him was to witness true courage—a warrior spirit that never wavered in the face of adversity. He met life’s challenges head-on, never backing down, never giving up. Even in his most difficult moments, Marvis found the strength to smile, to love fiercely, and to protect those he held dear. His will to live inspired all who knew him.

At the heart of Marvis’s world were his two beautiful daughters: Kay-lynne Richard and Kaylani Johnson. They were his pride and joy—the lights of his life and the reason behind every step he took. His love for them was boundless and unconditional; they were not only his motivation but also his legacy.

Marvis also shared a deep and enduring bond with his mother, Karen Richard. Her steadfast presence throughout his life was a source of strength and comfort. Together they weathered life’s storms with grace and unity.

He leaves behind a large and loving family who cherished him deeply. Among them are his aunts and uncles : Marsie Richard (Bryant Harris), Judith Richard, and Janice Martin (deceased); uncles: Darrell Richard (Barbara Richard), Ronnie Richard (Mable Richard), Patrick Richard (Lashawn Richard), Melvin Richard, Carey “Bird” Richard, Eugene Richard (deceased), John Johnson; and aunt Veronica Purham (deceased). Each held a special place in Marvis’s heart.

His siblings—sisters Stephanie Howard, Chimira Howard, Arnisha Tyree, Robyn George, Vyrona Miller, and Krista Keese; and brothers James Brown, Durand Antoine, Derrick George, Johnny Sam, Tyrik Edwards, and Devonte Watson—were not just family but lifelong companions in love and loyalty.

He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own: Kalya Antoinie, Amaya Antoine, Quinton Antoine, Kylie Antoine, Jayden Antoine, King Washington, Akiva Lindsey, Lacarya Obey, and Mariah Martin. So many more who affectionately called him "Unc". They will carry his spirit froward, remembering his strength, his houmor, and the way he made each of them feel seen and loved.

Marvis is preceded in death by his father Johnny Johnson; grandparents Ervin and Della Richard; grandmother Nobie Purham; and grandfather Fred Watkins. We find solace in knowing he is now reunited with them in eternal peace.

Also mourning his loss is Osiris Johnson, Marvis’s beloved dog and loyal companion.

Those who knew Marvis will remember a man of dignity and quiet confidence. His presence brought peace; his laugh could light up any room. He had a sharp wit balanced by a deep soul—a rare combination that made him unforgettable. He loved without limits and gave without hesitation.

More than anything else, Marvis was a family man. Whether as a father, son, brother, uncle, or friend, he gave everything he had—and then somehow gave even more. He protected those he loved with fierce devotion and reminded them daily how much they meant to him.

Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing that Marvis is now at rest—free from pain and embraced by eternal light. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him and may the legacy of his love continue to shine through those he leaves behind.

"Crazy you left me to look after these 2 (Kay-lynne and Kaylani) . But, I promise bro I'll make sure mama & your daughters are striaght as long as I have something to do with it. I'm trying to be strong for everybody but I know I'm changed forever & I'll never have anybondy believe in me like you did. I can't even believe this is me/showed me, I'm forever in debt for. It's so much more I need to get off my chest but I'll leave it at this...I love you. I'll mourn you til I join you. My Brothers Keeper" James Brown

“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭22‬-‭24‬ ‭NIV‬‬
