Jim's obituary

Martin James “Jim” Placko, 68, of Potosi, WI passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life will be held at later date. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI is serving the family.

Jim was born on June 22, 1955 to Martin John & Mildred (Chromcik) Placko in Chicago, IL. He was a graduate from Cassville High School in 1973 and later from UW-Platteville with a degree in Industrial Technology. He worked for John Deere Dubuque Works from 16 years, retiring in August of 2022. He also worked for Xtreme Rydz, Starks Sport Shop, CB & C in Cuba City, WI, Advance Transformer in Platteville, WI, Air Cooled Engines in Dubuque, IA and Daniel’ s Motor Sports in Kieler, WI. He was a guy that could fix anything and everything. Jim enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles, country music, country gold, rock bands (Bullit, Toyz, Bamboo Steamers, Al’s Speed Shop), collecting antiques, but most of all, he enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by al who knew and love him.

Jim is survived by 2 children: Robyn (Ryan Lewandowski) McGuire of Platteville, WI and Andrew Placko of Platteville, WI; 2 grandchildren: Padraic & Maddox McGuire; longtime special friend, Lisa Scholl of Potosi, WI and her children: Ronnie (Kaitlyn) Scholl, Kyle (Kournei) Scholl, Luke Scholl & Logan Scholl, along with a nephew, Michael (Keriann) Placko and 2 nieces, Wendy (Kevin) Krein-Placko & Amy (Peter) Dills.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert John Placko.

In lieu of plants & flowers a Martin J. “Jim” Placko Memorial Fund has been established.
