Martin's obituary

Martin Dennis Olson, a beloved father and dedicated professional, passed away on March 17, 2023, at the age of 70. He was born on August 19, 1952, in Des Moines, Iowa, and went on to lead a rich and fulfilling life. Dennis received his early education at Holy Trinity Catholic Church & School, graduating in 1966. Later on after the 50th anniversary of his class at Holy Trinity he started a monthly gathering of his classmates. His strong sense of passion of sports guided his path throughout his life. After completing his primary education, he continued at Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, where he graduated in 1970. Never one to shy away from hard work, Dennis' educational pursuits culminated with a degree from Iowa State University in 1975. During that time he played football and wrestled, participating in the Sun Bowl and Liberty Bowl. Professionally, Dennis had a successful career in the medical field and sales. His intelligence, hard work, and dedication to his profession earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. He made a lasting impact on the lives of many patients and staff and was always focused on providing the best care possible.

Outside of his work, Dennis had a passion for classic rock, football, wrestling, and horse racing. He was inducted into the Dowling Football Hall of Fame for his work on the football field. His love for these hobbies was evident to anyone who knew him, and he enjoyed spending his free time with family and friends, sharing his interests. In 1985 he married Paula Wyrick and had two children; John-Henry and Merrideth. His caring nature and generosity often shone through as he supported and uplifted those around him, forever leaving a mark on their hearts.

Perhaps the most poignant aspect of Dennis' life was his undeniable love for his son, John-Henry and daughter Merrideth. In every aspect of his life, Dennis exemplified the qualities of a generous, smart, and compassionate individual. Dennis Olson is survived by his son, John-Henry, and daughter, Merrideth and will be greatly missed by all who had the fortune of knowing him. His memory will live on through the lessons he taught and the love he shared with those close to him. May he rest in everlasting peace.

A funeral service will be held at Brook's Funeral Home in Clive, Iowa, on March 30th 2023 at 11:00am, with burial to follow at a local cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the family. If you are not able to attend the service there is a livestream option: https://vimeo.com/812533201/795b8b3bd7
