Background
YAY!!! We did it! The Martin Goulart Endowed Engineering Scholarship AKA The Half-A-Brain Scholarship is complete and will live on to help future Cabrillo College Engineering students... I think Martin would be very happy with this.
If you missed donating to the scholarship, or would like to donate to something else in Martin's
honor, please consider the Valley Churches United (https://vcum.org/) or see the link below. Martin wanted very badly to donate to them before he passed (especially for their Christmas Project), so if you're looking for a way to give back to the community, please consider VCUM.org
You can read below for more information about Martin's scholarship:
Martin studied Engineering at Cabrillo College, and after graduating San Jose State University, returned to Cabrillo to teach. Martin LOVED teaching at Cabrillo and did so successfully “with half a brain” (after his first and second brain surgeries). You just couldn’t stop Martin from getting things done!
Martin was always giving to others, helping them out however he could. Whether it was with his time, equipment, tools, expertise, or funds. Anyone who knew Martin has seen him build, fix, or repair something for someone else. He was enthusiastic about education and about supporting people to raise up their position in life. He talked about being willing to pay for others' education on a couple of different occasions, and if he was still here with us Martin would continue his support and contribution to others, because that is just who Martin was. He had a very giving heart… (especially if it was a “Good Deal”, or he was getting the “Best Bang for his Buck”) and that is why we are setting up the “Martin Goulart Scholarship” Endowment at Cabrillo College.
We raise money once, and the endowment will continue to generate scholarships for students annually in Martin’s honor... forever.
We think it’s a pretty “good deal”, and sounds like something Martin would get behind. In this way, his legacy will outlast us all.
Pacific Crest Engineering, where Martin worked, has generously donated $2,000. If we raise $5,500, Jo-Ann (Chair of Engineering at Cabrillo and a friend of Martin’s) is working on a grant that will match the $7,500 bringing the total to $15,000 which then can be invested to accrue interest to pay for the annual scholarship.
UPDATE FROM THE FOUNDATION (6/3/21):
