Martha was always so friendly and warm and excited to see our family as if we were related- and not just connected by my being the sister to Dave- married to her granddaughter Nikki. I will remember her cult following amongst all that met her, the way she sparkled with joy and laughter at Nikki's baby shower for yet to be born Nova, and the attention she gave you when you talked. My love to the whole enormous clan!!

I had such fun talking with both Martha and Mildred at the reunion on the Wessling farm (thanks to Judy and Roger) . Mildred hopped in our car and narrated as we drove past the family homes in Grand Junction. Later I spoke with the two sisters about what it was like to grow up with my mom, Lois Wessling, and what my grandparents Cora and Ray were really like. Their memories were specific and vivid! I’ll always remember that time with joy.

Martha and her family were my first acquaintances here at Collington, where she lived, when I arrived just after her husband, Chuck, had died. The warmth of her personality and our discovery that we shared so many ideas and values in common made for an instant friendship. She was always an inspiration as she reached out to so many people and followed her inquisitive mind wherever it led. The fact that she was absorbed in her favorite activity, memory writing, only a few days before she died, is an unbelievable tribute to her great ability to live her life to the fullest right up to the end.
