Martha's obituary
Mrs. Martha Gorman, 75, of Hanford, CA, passed away on November 04, 1999 after a brave battle with congestive heart failure.
Martha was born on April 24 to Thomas and Rena in West Virginia. After graduating from high school in 1942, she went on to marry her high school sweetheart, Wells. Wells had enlisted in the Navy to serve in WWII, so they were married in Florida during his training, but quickly separated when Wells went overseas. They had three children, all born in different decades which prompted Martha to tell others she had three "only children" Kyle, Susan, and Jane. She once told us she had a teenager in the house for almost 20 consecutive years. When Martha had Rich, she decided to dedicate her life to being a loving and fantastic mother. Martha excelled at championing her husband and children and supporting them through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. She made it her mission to improve the lives of not just her family but also others. Martha was passionate about sewing and baking, and when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found in her sewing room making beautiful garments for her family and herself. She and Wells moved to San Diego in the 1950s and moved into their dream home in rural San Diego in 1970. A house Wells had built and Martha had made a home (like she did every home they ever shared). Martha absolutely loved being Grammy to Chris, Katie, Amy, Sam, and Jacob. They will never forget her warmth and genuine love. We have missed her greatly. She was survived by her beloved Wells (passed in 2021 and missed Martha terribly in the 22 years that had passed after she died), her son Rich (passed in 2024), and she is survived by her daughters Susan and Jane, as well as her grandchildren. If Martha were still with us she'd have eight great-grands that she would undoubtedly adore and spoil rotten. Martha's memorial service was held in late November 1999 in El Cajon, CA by friends and family who loved her dearly. Her family still enjoys hearing from those whose lives she touched.
