Marsha's obituary
In Loving Memory of Our Beloved Mother, Wife, and Grandmother
Marsha Jones May
Our hearts are filled with both sadness and gratitude as we remember the beautiful life of Marsha Jones May, who was born on July 2, 1944, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Prince Leroy Jones and Henrietta Wilson Jones. On June 21, 2024, she quietly slipped away from this life to rest in the arms of her Heavenly Father.
Marsha lived a life that reflected God’s love, grace, and compassion. She was strong yet gentle, devoted yet humble, and her faith was the steady light that guided her through every season of life. After graduating from East Side High School in Paterson, New Jersey, she pursued her dream of caring for others by earning her nursing degree from Paterson General Hospital School of Nursing. For fifty faithful years, she served as a registered nurse—touching countless lives with her healing hands and kind heart.
But beyond her work, Marsha’s greatest calling was ministry. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was never shy about sharing His goodness. As a licensed minister, she founded The Light Ministries in Quinton, Virginia—bringing a message of hope, reconciliation, and empowerment to women and families. Her faith wasn’t just spoken; it was lived daily through her love, encouragement, and prayers for others.
To her family, Marsha was everything—a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She adored her family deeply and showed that love in every way possible. Whether it was cooking a favorite meal, sharing laughter and stories, or singing with her sisters, Marsha made every moment feel special. She loved going to the beach, finding peace and joy in the waves, and she always encouraged others to seek new adventures and walk boldly in faith.
Marsha was preceded in death by her son, Clanton May, Jr., and her brothers, Prince Edward Jones and Bernard Andrew Jones.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will never fade: her devoted husband, Rev. Dr. Clanton May, Sr.; her daughter, Thailyn Reed; her precious grandchildren, Elizabeth and Isaiah Reed; her sisters, Doris Kisner (Walt) and Bertha Pemberton; her brother, Marvin Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Though our hearts ache with her absence, we rejoice knowing she is now at peace, surrounded by the glory of God she served so faithfully. Marsha’s life was a light to all who knew her, and her love continues to shine brightly within us.
We thank God for every moment, every prayer, every smile, and every word of encouragement she shared. Her presence will forever live in our hearts.
With all our love,
Her Family
