Marty's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marlene "Marty" Thayer, a beloved mother, wife, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, who passed away on January 25, 2024. Born on December 4, 1941, Marty was a beacon of hope and strength, whose life was a testament to the love she carried in her heart and her unwavering perseverance.

Marty was predeceased by her mother, Marie Sorenson, her father, Cecil Sorenson, her cherished son, Sean Thayer, and her nephew, Brian Sears. Her soul is now with them, offering solace and unity in the heavens.

Marty leaves behind her devoted husband, Charlie Thayer, and her loving son, Charles Thayer and her other loving son, Michael (Melissa) Thayer.. Her legacy will continue through her granddaughters, Amber (Marshall) Sullivan, Heather (Tyler) Teague, Ashley Thayer, Cherokee (Allen) Arndt, Cheyenne (Michael) Brinkman, and Seana (Sims) Koger.

She is survived by her sisters, Delores (Gary) Christian, Barbara (Dan) Collier, and Donna (James) Sears. Marty's beautiful soul touched everyone around her, and her powerful presence will be greatly missed in the family gatherings she cherished so much.

Beautiful, strong, courageous, loving, caring, big-hearted, supportive, joyful, funny, witty, and amazing; these are just a few words to describe Marty. To everyone who knew her, she was a radiant light that cast a warm and comforting glow, enabling growth and optimism wherever she went.

She was truly the light of all of her loved one’s lives. Marty left behind a rich tapestry of love and memories. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren who she loved dearly. Her legacy of love for her family and her strength will continue to inspire all those who were blessed enough to know her.

Marty held a deep love for travel. Her and her beloved husband Charlie traveled all over the country and Europe. She also enjoyed the annual trips with her husband Charlie and loving son Chuck to visit their granddaughters, their families, other family members, friends and loved ones. Her adventurous spirit and love for her family were so profound that it shaped her existence.

Marty supported and followed the love of her life Charlie throughout his whole Airforce career. She was fiercely independent and could always do it herself.

To those whom Marty has left behind, may you find solace in her strength and her legacy, knowing that her love surrounds you still. Marty's spirit, now free and soaring, carries her love and wisdom forward in all of us. She will forever be remembered, cherished, and deeply missed.

Ashes will be interment in the above ground wall at Fort McPhearson Veterans Cemetery in Nebraska.
