Marlene's obituary
Marlene Ann Zimmermann, loving mother, grandmother, and wife passed away at the age of 74 on September 27, 2025. Marlene was born to George and Rose Manthey on November 26, 1950 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was one of five children and was inspired by her large family as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins to be a nurturing and caring woman who always gave her time to others.
Marlene attended Pulaski High School in Milwaukee, Wi and then went on to become a nurse. It was at this time that she was set up on a blind date by the sweetest patient, Marie Brandt, who insisted Marlene would be perfect for her grandson Bruce. The two met and fell in love, and were married on May 3, 1975, and would go on to have two daughters, Laura and Katie. Bruce was an officer in the Navy, and the family traveled the world together making countless memories. Marlene attended the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC), located on the Presidio of Monterey, CA with her husband Bruce, where they became fluent in the Indonesian language in preparation for Bruce being stationed in Jakarta, Indonesia. While living in Indonesia, Marlene was in charge of the food service operations and tours for the United States Ambassador. She was an asset to the tourism team due to her fluency in Indonesian, as well as her charismatic personality and ability to connect with anyone.
In addition to being a loving and dedicated mother, Marlene was a wonderful Nana to her three granddaughters and three grandsons. Above all, she treasured her family and loved spending time with her many grandchildren. Her warmth, wisdom, and love will be forever cherished by them.
Marlene is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Bruce Zimmermann; children Laura (Robert) Traver, Katie (Mark) Machak; grandchildren, Cambrie, Orren, Peyton, Shayla, Matthew and Micah; sisters Barbara Manthey and Sue (Jeff) White, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, and a host of other family members and friends.
She joins her parents, George and Rose Manthey, and her big brothers George Manthey and Jim Manthey in heaven.
Marlene had a vibrant spirit and always brought joy to others. Her smile and sweet personality made everyone feel loved and welcome.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 with a visitation from 10-11am, service at 11am, interment at noon, followed by a light lunch at Forest Hill Memorial Park, 3301 E. Forest Hill Ave, Oak Creek, Wi 53154.
