Mark's obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Mark Sawchuk announces his death after a brief illness on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the age of 58.
He joins his cherished mother, Patricia (Gilmore) in Heaven, as well as his grandparents, Steven and Mary Sawchuk and Josephine Gilmore.
He leaves behind his father, Ray and his step-mother, Penny; his brother Matthew and his sister-in-law Nicole; his sister Mandi Morehouse and his brother-in-law Mike; his nephew Griffin and his nieces Alexa and Lily to mourn him, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
After he graduated from Regina Mundi high school in London Ontario, Mark joined the Canadian Military. He proudly served his country on board the HMCS Huron, as a peacekeeper in the Golan Heights, and at various Canadian military bases around the world.
After traveling the world, he settled down near Owen Sound to enjoy the peace and quiet of a life lived in nature.
His father introduced Mark to fishing when he was a young boy. It became Mark’s lifelong hobby and continued into adulthood. Weekends fishing on Lake Erie with his brother and father was one of his favourite hobbies. Mark also loved tinkering with anything that had a motor, and enjoyed vigorous debates with anyone about anything.
Mark was very generous, kind-hearted and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved to make people laugh, and his imitation of the Swedish Chef always brought down the house. We will all miss our gentle giant with his unmistakable laugh.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warriors https://woundedwarriors.ca/
It is impossible to say goodbye to a beloved son and brother who had a larger-than-life personality. So, instead, we’ll just say “Let the phone ring once so we know you’re home.”
